Balancing High School and Part-Time Work
Part 3
Brad McGowan, of the career Center at Newton North High School in Massachusetts, think that working can be a valuable part of a student’s life, if taken on responsibility. “You can derive a great deal from working, considerably more than just money, “he says. “In most cases, you can acquire a nice dose of discipline and a whole new set of skills and experience.” In addition, your supervisor may be willing to write a strong college recommendation for you.
School Comes First
Schoolwork, including homework and studying for tests, should always be your top priority. McGowan cautions students who do decide to work, “if you are rushing through your assignments ….or not studying enough for test because of work, it’s time to cut back or quit and find a less time-consuming job.”

The Arts
The research indicates that students who participate in the arts often do better in school and on standardized tests. The arts help you recognize patterns, difference and similarities, and exercise your mind in unique ways, often outside a traditional classroom setting.
Many college require or recommend one or two semesters in the arts. Good choices include studio art, dance, music and drama. Many students have talents and extraordinary abilities in the arts. Students should look within their own repertoire of talents and identify their artistic and take college classes to develop their talents
Advanced Placement Programs* (AP*)
To be sure you are ready to take on college-level work, enroll in the most challenging courses you can in high school, such as students that score a 3.0 or higher on an AP Exam typically experience greater academic success and college graduation rates than students who don’t take AP.
Work hard in your righteous pursuits, and you will reap the benefits of self-fulfillment and job satiation. Don’t take shortcuts just “get by,” instead, take challenging and difficult roads (courses) and reach higher mountain peaks of achievement.

"Tis the Set of The Sail
Elia Wheeler Wilcox 9116
But to every mind there openeth,
A way, and a way and away.
A high soul climbs the highway,
And the low soul gropes the low,
The rest drift to and fro.
But to every man there openeth,
A high way and low,
And every mind decideth,
The way this soul shall go.
One ship sails East,
And another West,
By the self-same winds that blow,
'Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales,
That tells the way we go.
Like the winds of the sea
Are the waves of time,
As we journey along through life,
'Tis the set of the soul,

Recommended Classes for College Success

Part 1

The academic rigor of your high school courses is an important factor in the college admission process. College admission officers are your high school course schedule as a blueprint of your education. They’re looking for a solid foundation of learning that you can build on in college.

To create that foundation, take at least five solid academic classes every semester. Start with the basics and then move on to advanced courses. Challenging yourself is part of what makes school fun; but you need a firm grasp of the fundamentals before going on to more advanced work.

The Power of Study Groups
Part 3
Guidelines for Getting a Group Together
Here are some guidelines for creating and running a study group:
How many? Create a group for four to six people. In a larger group, it’s easy for someone to get left out and smaller groups can too easily get off track.
Who? Pick classmates who seem to share your interest in doing well academically. Look for people who stay alert in class, take notes, ask questions and respond to the teacher’s questions. Include someone who understands the material better than you and can explain the concepts and someone who doesn’t understand it as well, to whom you can explain the material.
Where? Hold study group sessions in a place that is free of distractions and that has room to spread out books and notes.
How long? Meet for no more than two to three hours at a time.
Having a time limit helps the group focus. If you know you only have an hour, you’re more likely to stay on task.
When? Try to meet regularly, on the same day and time each week.
Treating the study session as you would other activities helps you to keep to a schedule and ensure that everyone attends.

The Power of Study Groups
Part 2
The benefits of Study Groups
Group study offers other advantages is addition to gaining a deeper understanding of class material. These include the opportunity to; Reinforce note taking. If your AP Biology notes are unclear, you can ask a member of your study group to help you fill in the gasps. Share talents. Each person brings different strengths, such as organization skills, the ability to stick to a task or a capacity for memorization.
Cover more ground. Group members may be able to solve a calculus problem together that none would have solved alone. Benefit from a support system. Members often have common goals, such as good grades. Each person’s work affects the other members, which results in making members supportive of one another.
Socialize. Its more fun to study with others; the give-and-take makes it more interesting. And because it’s more fun, you spend more time studying!

Goals "in life as in football, you won't go far, useless you know where the goalposts are."
Arnold Glasgow
This statement is talking about to be a really good person to get good goals to earn those awards but if you no what your doing then go ahead but always remember to no what your doing because like how the statement says that if your a football person you go far like go to a different job get more money then that you can do better.

The Power of Study Groups
Part 1
Working Together Helps Everyone
You may have noticed that when you’re explaining something you've learned to a friend, you begin to understand it better yourself. This happens because, when you explain an idea, you need to think more deeply about it.
The same principle makes study groups useful. Studying with others in a small group is helpful because you:
·       Think out loud.
·       Share ideas.
·       Learn from one another.
In an effected study group, you and other students hash out lesson materials together ---- explaining concepts, arguing about them, figuring out why one person’s answer differs from another’s ---- and in the process, you most likely learn more than you would have studying by yourself.
